Bain CDD Diligence Kill

Commercial due diligence built inside Claude on your own data room, for the price of a Claude seat instead of a $300,000 to $500,000 strategy engagement. 9 prompts size the market top-down and bottom-up, map the competitive set, build the revenue model from drivers, run customer cohorts, pressure-test the management plan, do win-loss, tie every number out, and draft the IC-ready CDD memo. The market read in an afternoon while the other bidder waits six weeks.

I want to INSTALL the real setup so Claude runs my commercial due diligence on the actual data room, not just a chat demo. Walk me through it step by step, do not skip the install. Treat me like a deal-team associate or founder who has never built a Claude Project or installed an Office add-in, and define every term once.

This is NOT a Terminal or coding install. There is nothing to compile. It is two paths: a Claude Project for the documents (recommended for CDD) and an optional Excel add-in for the revenue build.

## Path 1 (RECOMMENDED for CDD) — a private Claude Project for the data room
This is where the CIM, financials, management plan, and customer data live so every prompt reads from one governed place.

Walk me through ONE step at a time, waiting for me to confirm each:

1. **What I need.** A Claude account. Pin **Opus 4.8**. Nothing to install for this path.
2. **Create the deal room.** In Claude, create a new **Project** and name it for the target. A Project is a private workspace with its own knowledge that other chats cannot see. Your data room stays in your own tenant.
3. **Load the data room.** Drop the CIM, financials, management plan, and customer/cohort exports into the Project knowledge. For a large VDR, summarize or export the key files; you do not need every appendix.
4. **Run the vault.** Run prompt 01, pick data source (A) upload, or (D) live connectors if your firm has Claude for Financial Services (see Path 3 — it is the strongest setup). Run 02 to 09 in order: market size, competitive teardown, revenue build, cohorts, management pressure-test, win-loss, the tie-out, the memo.
5. **Gate it.** Run prompt 08 (reconciliation self-check) before the memo. Any FAIL is a number to fix, not a footnote.
6. A named human owns the IC decision. Claude is the analyst.

## Path 2 (OPTIONAL) — Claude for Excel add-in for the revenue build
If I want the revenue model to live in real formulas:
1. In Excel (Microsoft 365 desktop or web): **Home** or **Insert** tab, **Add-ins** / **Get Add-ins**, search **"Claude"**, **Add**. Tell me where the button is in my version.
2. Sign in to the docked Claude side panel.
3. In vault prompt 01 choose data source (C) Excel add-in. For prompt 04 say "build the revenue model into my workbook as real formulas, tab by tab." The base and downside then recompute on their own.
4. Pin **Opus 4.8** for the model and memo.

## Path 3 (BEST, optional) — Claude for Financial Services for live market data
This is the upgrade. If your firm has Claude for Financial Services, the market sizing, competitive teardown, and comps pull from live data and filings instead of a static upload — current and sourced, in your own tenant.
1. Confirm your firm has Claude for Financial Services (the Anthropic finance offering with governed data connectors). If you are not sure, ask your admin whether the finance connectors are enabled; if not, Path 1 still runs the full pack on uploaded files.
2. Turn on the connectors you have: S&P Capital IQ, PitchBook, Daloopa, Morningstar, FactSet for market data and comps; your VDR (Datasite, Intralinks) for the data room.
3. In vault prompt 01 choose data source (D). The market and competitive prompts then pull live figures under governed access, each number sourced to the feed.
4. Pin **Opus 4.8**. A named human still owns the IC call.
This is optional. The pack does not require it; it just runs better with it.

## Rules for walking me through this
- One step at a time. Define every term once: Project, knowledge, connector, VDR, add-in, side panel, TAM/SAM/SOM, NRR, `<review_gate>`, `{{TOKEN}}`.
- Do NOT tell me a step is "not possible." If the Excel add-in is missing, check Excel for Microsoft 365, try Excel on the web, or AppSource. For the Project path there is nothing to install.
- Never paste a live data room into a public Claude window outside a Project. Use a Project with your tenant controls; respect each VDR and data provider's terms.
- A named human signs the IC memo. Claude builds and ties the numbers; a person owns the call.

First message: ask me "Path 1 (Claude Project for the data room, recommended) and do you also want Path 2 (Excel add-in for the revenue build)? And are you uploading files or pulling from a connector?" Then start step 1.
Step 2

Step 1 installed it. Now run these 9 prompts on your own data.

Before you connect live data

  • • Run dummy data first. Real client data is not a test bed.
  • • API keys never go in a public repo. Use env vars and a secrets manager.
  • • Add logging, access control, monitoring, and a rollback path before launch.
  • • Read the license. Forking a repo without checking is how lawsuits start.
