Financial Close Task Automation Tools in 2026
8 min read

The shortlist
- BlackLine, FloQast, Numeric and Trintech all sell close task management as one module inside a wider close platform.
- None of the four vendors publishes list pricing; FloQast states it charges no per-user fees.
- FloQast's Close AI package and Numeric's agent workflow are the most explicit about AI doing recurring close work.
- Trintech lists task dependencies, automatic alerts and built-in separation of duties on its close task page.
- Independent comparisons place BlackLine and Trintech at the enterprise end and Numeric and FloQast in small to mid-market.
- Pick on ERP fit, entity count and how many tasks the tool will complete, not just track.
The main financial close task automation tools in 2026 are BlackLine Task Management, FloQast Close, Numeric and Trintech (through its Adra and Cadency products). All four replace the spreadsheet close checklist with a shared task list that tracks owners, due dates, reviews and evidence, and each now adds some form of AI or agent layer on top of that list.
The useful differences sit in three places: who each tool is built for, how much of the work beyond tracking it actually performs, and how the vendor prices it. None of the four publishes a list price. This guide covers what each one says it does, based on the vendors' own pages and independent comparisons fetched on 29 October 2026.
What close task automation actually covers
Close task management is the layer that turns a month-end checklist into a controlled workflow. Trintech describes it as software that "organizes and automates financial close activities, ensuring tasks are completed on time, with accountability and transparency." In practice that means a central task list, preparer and reviewer sign-offs, task dependencies, due date alerts, attached workpapers, and a timestamped audit trail.
That is different from close automation in the narrower sense, which is the work itself: matching transactions, reconciling accounts, posting journal entries. Xenett's 2026 comparison draws the same line, separating close management from close automation such as "matching rules, exception handling, reconciliation automation, anomaly flags, and rule-based checks." Most buyers want both, which is why every vendor below sells task management as one module inside a larger close platform.
Before you shortlist anything, decide which side of that line your problem sits on. If the close runs late because nobody knows who is blocked, a task tool solves it. If it runs late because three people spend four days ticking bank lines, you need matching and reconciliation automation, and the checklist is a secondary concern.

Tool by tool
BlackLine Task Management
BlackLine positions Task Management as "a configurable, cloud-based command center" for finance and accounting tasks. Its product page lists automated task lists, assignments and workflows on a central platform. The BlackLine developer portal adds detail: a hierarchical task list, role-based workflow and real-time dashboards, used for month-end close checklists, PBC lists, tax filings and other task types. A Tasks API is documented on the same portal, which matters if you want to push or pull task status from other systems.
The product page cites two customer results: a 100% on-time reconciliation completion rate reported by Resimac, and a 70% faster close reported by eBay. Those are customer-reported figures published by the vendor, and they cover the close broadly rather than task management alone. The page also references Verity AI in its FAQ, but the task management page itself does not describe what the AI does inside the task workflow.
BlackLine does not list pricing on the task management page. Xenett's comparison describes its pricing as typically quote-based and not publicly listed, and places it at the enterprise end of the market, noting that implementation complexity can be high and that it may be more tool than a simple close needs. Hubifi describes it as a solid option for mid-sized to large companies wanting an end-to-end close platform.
FloQast Close
FloQast's close checklist organises tasks by functional area, documents required steps, and rolls tasks forward automatically into the next period. The vendor says an existing checklist can be mapped into FloQast "with the help of AI." Dashboards track due dates and task status by team member, business process and entity, and flag early, on-time and at-risk tasks. FloQast lists out-of-the-box integrations with Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Slack and SharePoint, and close data can be exported in a pivot-ready format for retrospectives.
Packaging is the clearest of the four. The Close Management package includes the close checklist, account reconciliations, accounting operations, projects, an AI assistant and ERP integration. The Close AI package adds AI agents, AI transaction matching including three-way matching, automated amortization, depreciation and subledger reconciliations, automatic journal entry posting, anomaly detection and real-time variance explanations. Risk and Compliance is sold separately or alongside either package.
FloQast does not publish prices, but its pricing page states "No Per-User Fees" and says packages scale with business outcomes rather than seat count. The checklist page says FloQast is trusted by more than 3,500 companies. Xenett places it as a common mid-market choice, and Hubifi notes that it works with existing spreadsheets as a management layer rather than forcing teams to abandon them.
Numeric
Numeric describes its close product as "the command center for the close," combining tasks, account reconciliation and flux analysis in one place. Tasks can be tagged by department, entity, control or any custom label, which helps teams tracking SOX controls across entities. Saved Views let users store and share filtered layouts. Every comment, submission and attachment is timestamped in an audit trail, and auditors can be given read-only access.
The agent angle is explicit. Numeric says you can point an AI workspace at Numeric so that agents do "the recurring work your checklist defines: accruals, sales commission updates, and follow-ups," with every step recorded back into the close. Its close module also lists live ERP integrations, auto-reconciliations, transaction monitoring, custom reporting and review notes.
Numeric does not publish prices. Its pricing FAQ says it considers factors "from number of transactions to number of seats" and that onboarding and data migration are scoped upfront. Modules can be bought separately on top of NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Workday or Sage Intacct, or the full platform can replace NetSuite as the ERP. Numeric publishes a Brex case study titled "How Brex reduced time to close from 6 to 4 days." Xenett describes it as a fit for small to mid-market teams that want structured close workflows.
Trintech Close Task Management (Adra and Cadency)
Trintech sells close task management inside two product lines, Adra and Cadency, and segments its site by mid-enterprise and large enterprise. Its close task management page lists a central checklist, real-time status dashboards, automatic alerts when tasks complete or approach their due date, task dependencies that stop work from starting until prerequisites finish, attached workpapers with an audit trail, and approval workflows with separation of duties built in. It also states that AI "can predict delays, highlights dependencies, and flags high-risk tasks."
Trintech headlines three figures on the page: 75% shorter time to close, 30% less time spent preparing and completing the close, and 60% less time supporting external auditors. These are vendor-stated outcomes without a stated method, so treat them as marketing claims rather than benchmarks. A more concrete data point is the SelectQuote case study, which describes a dashboard covering 300 accounts and 200 tasks.
The site lists integrations with Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle, Planful, SAP, ServiceNow and Workday, and says the platform supports multi-entity environments. Pricing is not published. Hubifi describes Cadency as a platform for automating the full record-to-report cycle and a comprehensive option for enterprises.

Start with your ERP and entity count, not the feature list. All four handle a checklist well. The real filter is which systems they connect to, how many entities and controls you track, and whether you want task tracking alone or the reconciliation and journal automation that sits beside it.
- Single ERP, lean team, fast onboarding: Numeric and FloQast are the two the independent comparisons place in the small and mid-market range.
- Many entities, multiple ERPs, strict segregation of duties: BlackLine and Trintech are the two positioned for enterprise and complex environments.
- Seat count is your cost driver: FloQast states it does not charge per user. Numeric says seats are one of several inputs. BlackLine and Trintech do not say.
- You want agents doing work, not just tracking it: FloQast's Close AI package and Numeric's agent workflow are the most explicit about AI executing recurring tasks.
Ask every vendor the same three questions in the demo. How many of our current checklist tasks will the tool complete without a person, rather than track? What does implementation cost and how long does it take for our entity count? And what happens to our close data, templates and audit trail if we leave?
Where off-the-shelf tools stop
Close task tools are strongest on the standard close: the same tasks, the same accounts, the same reviewers each month. They are weaker where the work is specific to your business. Private equity portfolio companies with sponsor reporting packs, family offices consolidating dozens of entities with uneven bookkeeping, and fund administrators with custom allocation logic tend to find that the checklist is easy to buy and the hard tasks still sit in spreadsheets beside it.
That is the gap consultance.ai works in. We build custom finance AI for close, reporting and deal workflows, with the first system live in about six weeks, and the client owns the code. For some teams the right answer is a vendor seat. For others it is a system built around their own entities and reports. If you run close for a private equity portfolio or a multi-entity family office, our financial close automation page explains how those builds work. You can also browse the free prompts and packs in the consultance.ai library, or book a call to talk through your close.
